Spasticity
One of the consequences of certain spinal cord malformations and many types of spinal cord injuries is a type of sustained muscle contraction in the paraspinous muscles and muscles of the extremites called "spasticity." This can be a perplexing difficulty at times requiring physical therapy, medication, and, above all, patience. Working with this problem often requires a "team approach" coupled with periodic re-assessments of progress as therapy proceeds.
