Radiosurgery
Using computer-assisted, stereotactic guidance, it is now possible to focus multiple beams of electromagnatic radiation ("radiosurgery") deep within the brain to destroy tumor cells that were previously beyond reach. Often working as a team with one of the neuroradiologists, this technique requires precise position of the head within specially designed immobilization frames to achieve the desired results. This approach is sometimes the only approach for patients with neoplasms in certain deep or inoperable location - or whose general health makes them a poor candidate for any type of surgery.
